Our Students

Attendance

EVERY DAY COUNTS

Canning Vale Primary School enjoys high rates of student attendance. Regular attendance is vital for student learning and wellbeing, and we encourage all students to attend school every day unless they are unwell.

Attendance is compulsory for students from Pre-primary to Year 6. While Kindergarten attendance is not compulsory, regular attendance is strongly encouraged. The school follows up all unexplained absences, including those in Kindergarten.

Please note that family holidays taken during the school term are classified as unauthorised absences. As part of our school policy, work is not provided for students during family holidays as this may imply that the school condones such absences.

ABSENTEE NOTIFICATION

At CVPS we use the Compass School Manager app for communicating between the school and home. Parents and carers can notify the school of a student absence through the app, where attendance notes can be submitted quickly and easily including uploading supporting documents such as doctors notes. If your child will be absent, we would appreciate if you could please complete the attendance note by 9:30am if possible.

Compass will send a push notification to alert families of any unexplained absences. These notifications are sent at approximately 10am each school day.

All requests for extended absences should be made in writing to canningvale.ps@education.wa.edu.au and include the classroom teacher.

LATE ARRIVALS

Students arriving at 8:44am or later must report to the front office to be signed in and collect a late pass before going to class. Students must not go directly to class without a late pass.

Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students must be accompanied into the office by a parent or guardian, who will then take them to class.

If your child is arriving late, there is no need to submit an attendance note through the Compass app. Submitting attendance notes for late arrivals can interfere with automatic attendance marking and may result in your child being incorrectly marked as not present and an unexplained absence notification being sent.

DEPARTURES DURING SCHOOL HOURS

If you need to collect your child during the school day, please come to the front office and process a parent pick-up using the Compass Console to generate a departure note. This note must be taken to your child’s classroom and given to the teacher before collecting your child.
