Canning Vale Primary School is nestled in the heart of the Waratah and Livingston Estates. Due to rapid housing development, the school opened in 1994 and has continued to expand. The beautiful and well maintained school is the hub of the community with dual use of many facilities including the oval, tennis and basketball courts and cricket nets. Sporting rooms and a Community Centre are adjacent to the school grounds.
The school is strongly supported by parents and the community at all levels and thanks to the hard work of the P&C Association over the years, all classrooms are air conditioned. Parents are warmly welcomed into the school as authentic school partners who can play an active role in their child's education.
The campus is shared with an Education Support Centre, and students with disabilities are fully included in mainstream classes at every appropriate opportunity. This adds to the strong inclusive culture of the school. Canning Vale Primary School has a significant number of bilingual students, parents and grandparents in the school community representing 44 different countries, and 45 different languages and dialects. As a result, Canning Vale Primary School has created rich learning programs that have allowed students to share experiences through many special events across the year. A full time English as a Second Language teacher and Education Assistant fully support those students who are learning English.
High standards of behaviour are expected, and in 2005 a values program was introduced and integrated into every day school life. This program underpins a whole school behaviour management policy. School and classroom rules are clear and managed consistently with students being rewarded for making the right choices.
The professional and dedicated staff are committed to providing the best possible educational environment for each student. Staff recognise the unique differences in student development and support students at educational risk through targeted programs.
The Arts program, developed by specialist visual arts and music teachers, offers fantastic opportunities for talented students to develop and extend their skills, with the music program being further supported by the School of Instrumental Music. The school choir has an excellent reputation and they often perform outside the school. This year a new P&C committee, The Friends of the Arts, is supporting both the music and visual arts teachers and are looking forward to 'Arts in the Vale' event in term 4 2007. The school also has a physical education specialist teacher and is very proud of the students' numerous sporting achievements.
Canning Vale Primary School has a strong focus on developing student knowledge in the core learning areas of mathematics, english and science. The appointment of a specialist science teacher to the school has resulted in some remarkable programs occurring. This year, a year 4 class is responsible for the development of a Cool the Globe project including recycling, composting and worm farming. They will eventually turn this project into an enterprise, selling the 'worm juice'.
Up skilling students in the area of Information and Communication Technology is also a priority. A high ratio of Apple Macintosh computers in years K - 3, including laptops, the development and effective use of a school intranet, and up skilling of staff has resulted in the successful integration of technologies into each classroom. Federal funding has allowed the school to purchase PC's for years 4 - 7 and also 32 PC laptops and trolleys.
Student leadership in the senior school is a strong feature, and the Student Parliament allows all students to be actively involved across the school throughout the year. Students look forward to becoming a senior due to the different opportunities and activities available to them.
Canning Vale Primary School, as a learning centre of excellence, has many outstanding features and is held in high regard by the community.
